Hi all,
With only one day left, I wanted to give a huge thank you to everyone who backed the PALOMINO campaign in these highly uncertain times, and give you a final update while the campaign is still running,
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to chat about PALOMINO with THE HOLLYWOOD SOAPBOX.
And if you haven’t seen it yet, here is the very personal essay I wrote for 13TH DIMENSION, about my creative/life journey where art meets commerce.
Lastly, here’s a video interview I did with the California Country Podcast!
Hope you are all well, and staying safe & sane!
Peace—
Stephan
FACEBOOK LIVE TONIGHT: COLORING A PAGE FROM “PALOMINO”

Hello my dear backers!
One of the funnest parts of creating my new graphic novel PALOMINO was making it a full-color book! The line art for this book intentionally left a lot of room for color, so I cut out quite a challenge for myself. I had a blast trying to capture the drama of noir, as well as the experience of being in a music club and the feeling of living in LA in general. The fun I’ve had must be showing, because color has been one of the most commented on aspects of the book. So tonight, Thursday April 30th at 7pm PST, I will go on Facebook Live on my personal FB page, and will be coloring one of the last remaining pages in real time, answering questions and taking you through the process!
This should be a lot of fun and I’m looking forward to seeing you there!

Stephan Franck's new neo-noir graphic novel PALOMINO is here!

Dear readers,
Thank you so much for reading and backing SILVER over the years! I couldn’t be more excited to share with you that my new graphic novel PALOMINO is here!
This is a bit of a departure for me: PALOMINO is a super fun neo-noir LA crime story, which takes place in 1981 in the lost subculture of LA’s Country music clubs. The whole thing is a love letter to life in LA, to my passion for noir and real unsolved mysteries. And it’s inspired by my own life experience-- working the clubs as a musician myself. So to say that this book feels LIVED IN is an understatement. I believe it is the STRONGEST WORK OF MY CAREER YET and I cannot wait for you to discover it.
But before anything else, I want to address the question on everyone’s mind. WHY NOW, IN THE MIDDLE OF A PANDEMIC? Because 100% of the funds will be spent paying our vendors, such as our North American printer, without whom there is simply no book business, and certainly no direct market possible. Surprise, surprise, we’re all in this together, and doing our part to help the printers means helping a crucial—yet rarely talked about—piece of the comics ecosystem. Yet, these times are tough for everyone, so if you simply do not have the funds to pre-order the book at this time, we totally understand. If so, please consider helping by signal-boosting this campaign. It would mean a lot. On a personal note, I can never say enough how much, over the years, the direct connection that has developed with fans at conventions and backers on Kickstarter has enriched and transformed my entire relationship with storytelling, and has been one of the most powerful experiences of my life.
What else can I tell you about PALOMINO? At the center of the story is a unique father-daughter relationship. Eddie Lang’s an ex-cop turned working musician with big dreams, but dreams don’t pay the rent. So Eddie reluctantly works as a private investigator to provide for his teenage daughter, Lisette. Eddie and Lisette share an unbreakable bond and a dry sense of humor. But they’re stuck. They’re haunted by a terrible loss and an unsolved crime that looms large over their lives. They’re running out of time to fix their family. And just as things seem at a stalemate, a new murder case upends their lives.
The story is bursting with a cast of colorful characters. I have finished writing and drawing the book and am currently finishing coloring it. So that means I was able to send an advance copy to some early readers.
Here’s what some heroes of mine in the comics and noir genre are saying about PALOMINO:
"This is fucking awesome." —Tod Goldberg, New York Times bestselling author of Gangsterland
“Well hot damn. It’s been at least a decade since I’ve taken such unalloyed pleasure in reading a comic book.Trust me on this.”—Howard Chaykin, legendary creator of American Flagg
“Franck's latest neo-noir graphic-novel PALOMINO reads like a free-flowing gust of pure creativity, all the while unfolding with implacable structure.”—Elsa Charretier, November, Harley Quinn
